JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is seeking an Associate Director for Community Development & Belonging to serve as a member of the leadership team and provide oversight and leadership for chapter coaching, council development, community and belonging initiatives, and scholarships.

This position will assist the Director in ongoing strategic planning and the execution of the Fraternity & Sorority Life mission and purpose for a community of diverse students, chapters, and governing councils. The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the mission and goals of the university, strengthen the scholarship and build the character and integrity of our members, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage State College through community service and philanthropic efforts, and affirm personal and organizational responsibility. This position provides support to chapter advisors and local house corporation personnel, will represent Student Affairs and OFSL on various committees, and establish and grow relationships with internal partners such as Student Leadership & Involvement, Associated Student Activities, and DEIB units, as well as many external stakeholders.

This position reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life and will supervise a team of three Assistant Directors with collective responsibility for advising and policy implementation for new members and executive board officers within a fraternity and sorority community of approximately 70 chapters and 4 distinct councils.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Create, oversee, and assess governing council advising and chapter coaching frameworks and programs.

Partner with inter/national headquarters representatives and alumni to manage all fraternity and sorority expansion and re-establishment efforts.

Assist the Director in strategic planning utilizing current trends and assessment data.

Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the community development and belonging team, including the assistant directors and graduate assistants in the office.

Serve as a liaison to Student Leadership & Involvement, the Parents Program, Student Orientation & Transition Programs, Campus Recreation, the HUB-Robeson Center, Student Affairs Development, and other University departments to develop the fraternity/sorority community and its stakeholders.

Implement and revise the Chapter Recognition & Standards of Excellence program.

Manage the Fraternity & Sorority Life scholarship application and awards process.

Design and coordinate governing council transition activities and leadership retreats.

Organize chapter advisor roundtable meetings and education opportunities.

Collaborate with Residence Life and Housing Assignments to support and develop the on-campus Panhellenic Council sorority floors and community.

Guide ongoing professional staff development and training for the department in collaboration with the leadership team.

Represent Fraternity & Sorority Life and Student Affairs on various committees.

Provide leadership for other initiatives and projects as needed.

Candidates must demonstrate:

Understanding of student development and health and safety issues in the fraternity and sorori y community.

Ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and providing culturally competent and inclusive services to students and organizations from historically underrepresented communities.

Record of collaboration with students, University departments, inter/national headquarters, and other stakeholders.

Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching.

Ability to balance holding students accountable with developing positive and trusting relationships.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict.

Presentation and training facilitation skills.

Education and Experience:The position requires a bachelor's degree or higher, 8+ years of related experience, and 3+ years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check may be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
